CLARKSVILLE, IN -- pāco manufacturing^® was recently featured in the July 17, 2009 edition of the Louisville Business First.  President Glen Morris acknowledged 2008 as a record year for the company, with $5 million in sales.  However, 2009's recession has been difficult on pāco manufacturing^® as with many other companies.  Morris stated that companies have deferred the kind of capital projects and expansion which pāco manufacturing^® targets.

To boost sales, new strategies have been researched, reviewed and adopted.  Two major ideas presented in the article were growing a foreign partnership and taking advantage of visibility.  At the beginning of 2009, pāco manufacturing^® started a joint venture with Apple International to market, sell and service Apple's food processing machinery in the United States.  The newly formed company, Apple Food Systems LLC, will offer a proven technology to the Americas.  Morris stated that the venture gives pāco manufacturing^® an alternative to its normal business of making unique products for customers. 

Another idea adopted by the company this year was to take advantage of the plant's prime location and 1200 feet of Interstate 65 frontage to display banners about the company.  These 3' x 15' interchangeable banners are rotated on a monthly basis with such slogans as "Increase your Productivity with pāco manufacturing", "CNC & General Machining", and "Machine Design & Build", to name but a few. Recently, this effort paid off as an engineer from a large local company saw one of the banners and hired pāco manufacturing^®  to make machines for them. PRECISION AUTOMATION^® CONTINUES OPERATIONS UNDER NEW NAME

CLARKSVILLE, IN -- Precision Automation^® Co., Inc. began doing business as
pāco manufacturing^® in October of 2006, according to an announcement by Glen A. Morris, President of the Clarksville, Indiana company. There is no change in ownership or management, and the official name of the company remains Precision Automation^® Co., Inc. The decision to do business on a daily basis under the new name is just one action item resulting from a lengthy strategic planning process undertaken by management and staff to better position the company for the future.

“Automation is a limiting term,” observed Morris. “Most of our customers and prospective customers are manufacturers, and we want to make sure they view our company on that broader platform, especially with our contract manufacturing capabilities.” The consensus among those involved in the planning process was that the previous name has become too closely associated with high-end automation, close tolerance parts and so on, to the exclusion of the plant’s other capabilities.

Founded over fifty years ago, the company changed its name in 1970 from Precision Parts to Precision Automation^® Co., Inc. That earlier change, too, was a reflection of how the company had expanded its services and capabilities over the years. The new change to
pāco manufacturing^® will help position the Indiana facility to once again target a wider manufacturing base.

“We’ve changed a great deal over the years,” noted Morris, “and have begun to develop brands in specific niches; have increased our contract manufacturing capabilities, while we continue to offer design, engineering and implementation capabilities as well. We’re emphasizing the concept of being the 'one source' for a company's manufacturing and assembly requirements, focusing our attention more intently on our core business of contract machining and fabrication, from prototype to production.”

The name change will also enable the Clarksville facility to foster an image which compliments but differentiates itself from the original plant in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which will continue to operate under the Precision Automation^® name. The strategic focus of the two plants has diverged somewhat over the years, even with their shared 53-year history, and the new name will aid the Clarksville plant in strengthening its own unique identity.

The name change is one component of an overall strategic plan to better position
pāco manufacturing^® in enhancing and deepening its existing customer relationships while broadening its customer base through an increased market-wide awareness of all it has to offer.
